Tooth Wear: causes, risks and remedies

Worn down teeth

Worn down teeth can look unsightly, feel rough and cause pain. When teeth wear down to the nerve they can cause nerve death, requiring root canal treatment or even tooth extraction.

Tooth wear can occur at any age, from infants to the elderly, and can be related to an acidic diet, tooth grinding or health conditions.

While treatment of tooth wear can be complicated, it doesn’t have to be expensive, and can often be achieved in 1 or 2 appointments.

At Great Teeth we generally take the approach of scanning the teeth to obtain a 3D model so we can analyse the wear and make a digital blueprint of the required corrective tooth shapes, which we can then reproduce in the mouth using either the modern machined ceramic materials, or inexpensive bonding techniques, often with no tooth drilling!
The longer tooth wear is allowed to progress, the more damage that can occur to your teeth and jaws and the harder it gets to fix, so if your teeth are wearing down, it’s very important that you get it investigated in the early stages, don’t wait for something to hurt or break!
